1. Does NYIAC administer arbitrations?

No. Per NYIAC Arbitration Rule No. 1, NYIAC does not administer arbitrations. It provides  world-class hearing rooms for arbitrations, mediations, and other gatherings, as well as information, programming and resources to support international arbitration.

2. If my arbitration clause requires arbitration with another organization, can I have my hearings at NYIAC?

Yes. You can hold hearings at NYIAC no matter which organization administers the arbitration or which arbitration rules you use.

3. Is NYIAC affiliated with an arbitral organization?

No. NYIAC is an independent non-profit organization that is not affiliated with the AAA, JAMS, ICC or any other arbitral institution.

4. Does NYIAC have a list of approved or recommended arbitrators?

No. There are many experienced arbitrators based in New York, but NYIAC does not require or recommend the use of any specific arbitrator. If your arbitration is administered by an organization, that organization may have requirements or procedures for selecting arbitrators.

5. Which party pays NYIAC’s hearing room rental fees?

NYIAC’s fees are the responsibility of all parties to the arbitration and must be paid before the hearings commence.

6. Do you have to be a member of NYIAC to rent hearing rooms?

No. NYIAC hearing rooms are open to all who satisfy the Hearing Terms & Conditions. NYIAC’s membership consists of leading global and New York law firms, economic consulting firms, and individual members who provide financial support and leadership for the organization alongside the Dispute Resolution Section and International Section of the New York State Bar Association.

7. Does anyone have a financial stake in NYIAC?

No. NYIAC is an independent, non-profit organization. Law firms, experts, and individual members provide voluntary financial support to the organization, but they do not own the organization or have stake in its financial success.
