Signed on February 4, 2016 in Auckland, New Zealand, the Trans-Pacific Partnership (once in force) will cover a market of 800 million people representing 40% of global GDP.  In the face of extreme opposition to investment protections in Europe and elsewhere, the TPP represents a reaffirmation of a multilateral approach to establishing minimum investment protection standards and of access by investors to arbitration to enforce those rights.
