The New York City Bar Civic Education Committee Presents the Declaration’s Meaning in American Life and Law

This year marks 250 years since the Declaration of Independence set forth foundational ideals that have continuously shaped America.  Professor Annette Gordon-Reed, one of the nation’s leading scholars on Thomas Jefferson, will discuss Jefferson and the meaning of the Declaration in American history.  A Professor at Harvard Law School, Professor Gordon-Reed is the author of numerous books, including On Juneteenth; The Hemmings of Monticello; and Most Blessed of the Patriarchs, and has received the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award.
