The New York City Bar Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Committee Presents 24-Hour Basic Mediation Training

This 24-Hour Initial Mediation Training is designed to provide a firm foundation in the mediation of court disputes, with a blend of theory and practice. The training will introduce skills and approaches to assist in the mediation of court-annexed cases. Specific topics to be covered include: mediation norms in court-annexed cases, pre-mediation process, active listening, use of caucus, effective inquiry, and working through barriers to an agreement. The training will also address issues of ethics, identity, and culture in mediation. A certificate of completion will be issued at the conclusion of the program. 

This training is approved for the 24-hour training under Part 146 of the Rules of the Chief Administrative Judge. Final placement on any court roster is at the discretion of the local Administrative Judge and participation in a course that is either approved or pending approval does not guarantee placement on a local court roster.
