The International Bar Association (IBA) Bar Issues Commission Presents the U.S. Declaration of Independence at 250 Years and the Rule of Law

The Declaration of Independence celebrates its 250th anniversary in 2026. Its fundamental principles were drawn in part from the Magna Carta and formed part of the inspiration for the French Revolution. Today, certain parts of its principles are reflected globally, in such instruments as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The document is not without its challenges as its principles are put to the test across multiple jurisdictions. This webinar will explore the impact of the Declaration on the rule of law, and the role that bars should play in educating the public as to the meaning and safeguarding of the rule of law.
